As a healing arts professional, I have 12 years of experience working with individuals through movement, touch, and verbal direction to increase somatic awareness and self-discovery. It was during my MFA program in dance that I became incredibly interested in the human body's relationship to trauma. This interest overtook me and it soon became clear that I needed to broadened my career in dance to include trauma or somatic therapy.
Somatic Therapy: Somatic therapy is a touch-based practice that helps facilitate nervous system regulation through calming the survival responses of fight, flight, and freeze. Individuals begin to track and follow sensations, which allows for the body to gently process what I call the nervous system's "hiccups" or activations. Once a person becomes better connected to their body, their mind and body is able to work in harmony, allowing for a sense of coherence, or wholeness. By being able to create a resonance between the mind and the body, the never-ending chatter of the mind will pause, allowing a person to rest in the “here and now.” This process can bring relief to many people suffering from anxiety, depression, grief, chronic pain, digestive issues and feelings of stuckness.
I work primarily with the modality Somatic Experiencing®, which is a body-oriented approach to trauma that was created by Peter Levine. It's based on the realization that human beings have an innate ability to overcome the effects of trauma, and return to a greater sense of aliveness, relaxation and wholeness. Trauma can range from surgeries, car accidents, falls, sudden loss of loved ones, hearing bad news, abuse, violations and etc.
Certifications: Somatic Experiencing Touch Skills MABT (mindful awareness body-oriented therapy) Recently completed 2 of the 3 year training towards Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) **These practices can be integrated into massage sessions, although I do believe they have more of a powerful impact if done on their own.
Massage Therapy: I have been a licensed massage therapist since 2005. I specialize in deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point, and passive sequencing. My practice revolves around rehabilitation, injury prevention, nervous system health and embodied wellness. I collaborate with clients to create specific treatment plans to address the unique needs of each individual. I tend to move slowly in my practice, listening and taking my cues from the body instead of forcing change. I work with diverse communities such as athletes, artists, children, trauma survivors, and weekend adventurers along with emotional components such as depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms and grief. My desire is to help realign a person towards healing, balance, and ease.
I am currently taking new PIP and L&I clients.
